About us

We are a registered charity cat rescue and shelter located in Dodges Ferry, committed to supporting and caring for every homeless cat and kitten that we have the capacity to help. Our main goal is to secure loving forever homes for felines in need. We ensure all the cats and kittens we help are desexed, microchipped, flea and worm treated, and vaccinated, before they can be adopted. In addition to our rehoming efforts, we actively participate in educating the public about responsible cat ownership and containment practices, ensuring the wellbeing of both cats and the local wildlife.

We have a team of dedicated foster carers who provide care for cats and kittens in their homes, under our guidance and support. This approach ensures that the felines in our care are well-socialised with people, other pets, and get used to a home environment before they are adopted to their forever family.

You can spot us at various events, including regular appearances at Bunnings Mornington, a range of markets, and other happenings around Southern Tasmania. As a volunteer-run organisation, we depend on the generosity of our community for support through adoptions, donations, and the sale of our 'Birch Merch' fundraising items.

Our team

The Birchgrove team consists entirely of unpaid volunteers dedicated to helping cats and kittens in need. We're fortunate to have around 80 individuals engaging in various roles, including the management team, charity board, foster carers, shelter work, transport, events, and more.
